Cattleya luteola (Quintal × Peruflora) is a select cultivar of the species Cattleya luteola , a miniature epiphytic orchid of the genus Cattleya, native to the low-altitude tropical forests of Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia (100-2000 m altitude). This specific hybrid, derived from the selection of the parents 'Quintal' and 'Peruflora', is appreciated for its vibrant flowers and compact size.

Botanical description:

  • Plant : It has thin pseudobulbs, 2-5 cm high, unifoliate, with an almost creeping growth. The leaf is lanceolate, 5-10 cm long, rigid. The plant remains compact, ideal for small spaces.
  • Flowers : The inflorescence produces 2-10 flowers 3-5 cm in diameter, of an intense yellow, sometimes lemon or chartreuse, with a contrasting labellum, white with magenta or reddish accents. The flowers are fragrant, with a sweet, fruity scent. Flowering occurs in summer-autumn.
  • Specific characteristics : This cultivar has larger and rounder flowers than the average for the species, due to the selection of tetraploid (4N) parents, which gives a more robust substance to the petals and a fuller appearance.
  • Culture : Prefers moderate to bright indirect light, high humidity and temperatures of 18-29°C at night, 24-32°C during the day. Grow in pine bark or sphagnum moss, with excellent drainage, or mounted on cork/driftwood (if humidity is suitable). Watering can be done weekly, with a reduction in winter, ensuring the substrate dries out between waterings.
