Full description and specifications

Aeschynanthus gracilis 'Mira' , also known as the "Lipstick plant" due to the shape of its flowers, is an epiphytic perennial appreciated for its vibrant flowers and decorative foliage. It is ideal for adding a splash of color and exoticism to interior spaces, being a relatively easy-to-care for apartment plant.

The leaves are long, thin and lanceolate, with a glossy texture and a dark green color. They are arranged alternately on the thin stems, creating a lush and attractive appearance.

The flowers are tubular and appear in bunches at the top of the stems. The color of the flowers is intense red, and their shape gives them the appearance of lipstick, hence the popular name. The flowers are very attractive and can bloom throughout the year under suitable conditions.

Care:

  1. Light: The plant prefers indirect light. Avoid direct exposure to the sun, which can burn the delicate leaves. It is ideal to be placed near an eastern or western window.

  2. Soil: Prefers a well-drained, aerated soil rich in organic matter. An orchid soil mix, combined with perlite or pine bark, is ideal to provide the necessary drainage.

  3. Watering: Watering should be moderate, keeping the soil evenly moist, but not saturated. It is important to let the soil dry out slightly between waterings. In winter, slightly reduce the frequency of watering.

    • Temperature: A eschynanthus gracilis 'Mira' prefers temperatures between 18-24°C. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 15°C and protect the plant from cold air currents.

    • Humidity: The plant prefers a high level of humidity. In dry air conditions, periodically spray the leaves with water to maintain the necessary humidity.

    • Fertilization: Fertilize the plant once every 4-6 weeks during the period of active growth (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer for indoor plants. Reduce fertilization during autumn and winter.

    • Propagation: Aeschynanthus is propagated by stem cuttings. Take cuttings approximately 10 cm long, remove the lower leaves and plant them in well-drained soil. Keep the soil slightly moist until rooting.
