Davallia fejeensis, commonly known as Rabbit's Foot Fern, Hare's Foot Fern or rabbit's foot fern, is an epiphytic fern native to Fiji. It stands out through its fluffy, brownish-silver rhizomes, which spread across the substrate and extend over the edges of the pot, resembling rabbit's feet.

The leaves (fronds) are finely lacy, deep green, and create an airy, delicate appearance. The plant has moderate growth and looks especially attractive in hanging baskets, where the rhizomes can hang freely.

Key features:

  • Fluffy, characteristic rhizomes (“rabbit's feet”)
  • Finely lacy, deep green leaves
  • Epiphytic / semi-epiphytic growth
  • Airy and elegant appearance
  • Size: 20–50 cm fronds, with rhizomes spreading horizontally

Easy care:

  • Light: bright indirect light or bright partial shade. Avoid strong direct sunlight.
  • Temperature: 16–24°C. It does not tolerate temperatures below 12–13°C for extended periods.
  • Watering: keep the substrate slightly moist. Allow the top layer to dry out a little between waterings. Exposed rhizomes benefit from occasional misting.
  • Humidity: medium to high (50–70%). It grows better in humid environments.
  • Substrate: airy, light, and moisture-retentive.

Recommended substrate: For optimal development of the rhizomes and fronds, an airy substrate specially formulated for ferns and epiphytic plants is recommended. → Professional substrate for Anthurium, Hoya, Bromeliaceae and ferns - Secret Garden

Uses: Ideal for hanging baskets, shelves, terrariums, or as a collector's plant. Its fluffy rhizomes extending over the edges of the pot make it particularly attractive and unusual. It is one of the ferns more tolerant of the medium humidity levels found in homes.

Tip: Do not bury the rhizomes completely in the substrate – leave part of them exposed, as they grow in nature. Rhizomes that are too dry or too wet can lead to problems. With consistent humidity and good light, the plant develops beautifully.

A distinctive fern with a playful appearance thanks to its fluffy rhizomes, relatively easy to care for and highly decorative.

📌 Note: Plants may be delivered with more or less foliage, depending on their stage of development and the season. Fern leaves are delicate and may have dry tips or edges, small tears, bends, spots, or other aesthetic imperfections resulting from growth, handling, transport, or the plant's adaptation to its new environmental conditions. These aspects do not affect the plant's viability, and it may continue to produce new leaves.
Height including pot: approx. 20-30 cm
