Euphorbia obesa , also known as the "ball plant" or "baseball plant" , is a succulent native to South Africa, highly prized for its spherical shape and graphic, almost geometric appearance. It is part of the Euphorbiaceae family and is ideal for rare succulent collections, minimalist decor or bright corners with small plants.

🔹 Botanical characteristics:

Habit : Succulent plant with a globular or slightly cylindrical shape , which becomes taller as it ages. It can reach up to 10–15 cm in height and diameter , with very slow growth.

Leaves : It has no visible leaves – they are reduced to small, deciduous formations. The actual leaf has been replaced by the succulent stem, which also takes over the function of photosynthesis.

Stem : Thick, succulent, round or slightly elongated , with 8–10 rounded ribs. The surface is green-gray with darker horizontal stripes and dots , giving a natural decorative appearance. It may become slightly reddish in bright light.

Flowers : Small, greenish-yellow , grouped in cyathia (floral structures typical of euphorbias), appearing at the top of the plant. It is a dioecious species , meaning the plants are either male or female – so both are needed to produce seeds.

🔹 Recommended growing conditions:

Light : Prefers bright indirect light or filtered sun . In good light, the color becomes more intense, but it should be protected from direct midday heat, especially in summer.

Watering: Reduced. Water only when the soil is completely dry , especially in summer. In winter it goes dormant and watering is significantly reduced.

Soil: Very well drained, ideal substrate for cacti and succulents, with the addition of coarse sand or perlite.

Temperature : It feels good in warm climates, but must be protected from low temperatures. It does not tolerate frost.

Humidity : Does not require high humidity. Adapts well to dry indoor air.

Fertilization : Once every 1–2 months in the warm season, with cactus fertilizer, in reduced doses.

Euphorbia obesa is a unique succulent plant with a sculptural appearance that brings a touch of elegance and curiosity to any collection. Its spherical shape, fine texture and discreet natural pattern make it a perfect decorative piece for lovers of unusual and minimalist plants.
