Pachypodium succulentum (Caudex oblik)
€32,95
Pachypodium succulentum is a fleshy plant native to South Africa, belonging to the Apocynaceae family. It is valued for its fleshy trunk, interesting leaves, and flowers, making it a popular choice for collectors of fleshy plants and cactus enthusiasts.
Size and shape: Pachypodium succulentum is a dwarf shrub with a short, thick, fleshy trunk (caudex), which can reach heights of up to 30-45 cm. The trunk is covered with short spines, and the branches grow near the top of the plant.
Leaves: The leaves are green, lance-shaped, with a mature length of about 5-10 cm (2-4 inches). They are arranged spirally around the tip of the branches and fall off during the dry season, leaving the plant dormant.
Flowers: Pachypodium succulentum produces tubular flowers with white or pale pink petals, which appear in spring or summer. The flowers are arranged in clusters at the tips of the branches.
Cultivation: Pachypodium succulentum prefers well-drained soils and full or partial sun exposure. The plant is drought-resistant and requires moderate watering. When grown outdoors, it is suitable for USDA hardiness zones 9-11, where temperatures do not fall below -6.7 degrees Celsius.
Landscape use: Due to its unusual appearance and small size, Pachypodium succulentum is ideal for use as an ornamental plant in succulent gardens, dry landscaping, or in pots for indoor or outdoor settings. The plant can be used as a focal point in arrangements with other fleshy plants or cacti.
