Iris ensata ‘Dinner Plate™ Blueberry Pie’ is a spectacular variety of Japanese iris, appreciated for its very large, flat flowers in rich shades of blue-violet to deep violet, with a bright yellow center. The flowers can reach about 15 cm in diameter, and the plant forms elegant clumps with long, green, vertically arranged leaves. It is an excellent choice for gardens with moist soil, pond edges, bright semi-shaded areas, or sophisticated perennial beds.

🌱 Botanical characteristics:

  • Family: Iridaceae
  • Plant type: rhizomatous perennial garden plant, decorative for its flowers
  • Common name: Japanese iris
  • Habit: clumping, neat, with vertical foliage and elegant flower stems
  • Leaves: long, narrow, green, with a clean and architectural look
  • Flowers: very large, flat, blue-violet to deep violet, with a yellow center, sometimes slightly double in appearance
  • Overall appearance: refined, spectacular, and very suitable for water gardens or moist areas

💧 Growing and care conditions:

  • Light: prefers sun or bright semi-shade
  • Watering: regular; appreciates consistently moist soil during the growing period
  • Substrate: light, rich, well-drained but with constant moisture; does very well in slightly wet areas
  • Humidity: prefers soil that does not dry out excessively in summer
  • Temperature: very well adapted for outdoor growth in temperate climates
  • Maintenance: grows very well near ponds, streams, or in beds with moist soil; for good growth, it should not suffer drought during the warm season

What makes it special:

  • impresses with very large, striking flowers, characteristic of the Dinner Plate™ series
  • has an intense, elegant color with a beautiful contrast between violet and yellow
  • is ideal for moist garden areas, near water or in cooler spots
  • brings a sophisticated and slightly exotic air to summer arrangements
  • is excellent both as a statement garden plant and for cut flowers

📌 Note: Iris ensata rhizomes are delivered in dormancy, without developed leaves or with dry remnants typical of the season. The start of growth may vary depending on temperature, planting time, and cultivation conditions. The appearance of rhizomes may differ from one specimen to another without affecting growth capacity. Cold resistance: good; under suitable conditions, it overwinters in the garden and returns annually in growth.

Rhizome size (height): 8 - 10 cm
