Hoya patella 'Pink' (IML 1096)

Hoya patella 'Pink' is a cultivar of the species Hoya patella, an epiphytic plant native to New Guinea. It has a compact form and relatively slow growth. The flowers are cup-shaped, usually appearing one to three per peduncle, and are sold as fragrant. 'Pink' describes the flower color and remains the sales label. Its small size makes it suitable for narrow shelves, open terrariums, and compact supports.

Botanical identity and origin. Hoya patella Schltr. is an accepted name, published in 1913. Its native range is New Guinea. The epithet refers to the cup-shaped form of the flower.

Foliage and growth. The foliage is small to medium-sized and often slightly pubescent. Young leaves may have a bronze or pink tinge, later becoming dark green. The plant remains compact, with short-vine growth.

Flowers and fragrance. A peduncle may emerge from each node. Each peduncle usually produces 1–3 flowers, approximately 2.5 cm in size and cup-shaped. The commercial color of this selection is pink. The flowers are fragrant; perceived intensity may vary. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.
