Hoya longifolia

Hoya longifolia Wall. ex Wight is an accepted species with glossy, dark green foliage made up of long, narrow leaves. In nature, it grows as a climbing epiphyte or lithophyte, while indoors it can be trained onto a support or allowed to trail from a hanging pot. The white flowers, sometimes lightly tinged with pink, appear in rounded umbels and are fragrant. Its elegant growth habit and linear foliage give it a distinctive appearance in Hoya collections.

Characteristics. The leaves are linear to narrowly lanceolate or oblong, with pointed tips and subtle lateral veins. Floristic sources describe leaf blades that can reach approximately 8–20 cm, sometimes more. The plant can be supported on an arch or another structure, but it is equally decorative when the shoots are allowed to grow pendulously.

Flowers and fragrance. The inflorescences are globose umbels with multiple flowers. The corolla is white and may have a pink tint, while horticultural sources describe a darker center and a pleasant fragrance. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.
