Hoya compacta, sold as Hindu Rope, is the green form with twisted foliage and short internodes. The vines hang compactly, like a rope. Hindu Rope is a common name. The leaves are thick, glossy, and dark green, occasionally with silver splashes. It is also sold as Hoya monstruosa or Indian Rope. The flowers are white or pale pink and fragrant. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Foliage and growth. The leaves twist around the stem and over one another, creating a rope-like appearance. The green is saturated; the underside may be paler. Silver splashes occasionally appear on the green tissue; this splash does not replace a cream border and does not make the plant variegated. The degree of twisting varies from one vine to another. This batch is not 'Regalis', with marginal variegation, and is not 'Mauna Loa', with a central pattern.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers appear among the twisted leaves. They are star-shaped, white and pink or pale pink, with a darker corona toward the center. They are fragrant; in Secret Garden batches, the scent is described as almond-like, with no guaranteed intensity. Horticultural reports sometimes also mention honey, vanilla, or chocolate. The flowers last for several days, depending on the microclimate. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. The commercial name remains Hoya compacta (Hindu Rope). As a taxonomic note: Kew (POWO) treats Hoya compacta as a synonym of Hoya carnosa. Lacrima Maicii Domnului, Wax Flower, and Porcelain Flower are broad common labels for Hoya, not synonyms of this form.

Vine length varies depending on the batch and season.

Substrate: use an airy, well-draining mix suitable for epiphytic species. We recommend the professional substrate for Hoya and Anthurium - SG Mix.
