Epidendrum radicans ‘Orange’ XL is a selection of Epidendrum radicans, valued for its vigorous stems and abundant inflorescences. It is an orchid suited to a very bright space, balcony, or sheltered terrace during the summer.

About this plant

Epidendrum radicans is an orchid native to Central and South America, valued for its small flowers, grouped in abundant inflorescences with vivid shades of orange, red, or yellow. It is also known as the “garden orchid” in areas with warm climates and is one of the easiest Epidendrum species to grow.

Care at a glance:

  • 🌞 Light: prefers bright light, including several hours of direct sunlight per day; insufficient light reduces flowering.
  • 🌡️ Temperature: grows well at moderate temperatures, with an optimum range of 18–28°C; in winter, it requires min. 12–14°C.
  • 💧 Watering: the soil or substrate should be kept slightly moist but well drained; it does not tolerate standing water.
  • 🌱 Substrate: an airy mix with bark and perlite, or it can even be planted in the garden in areas without frost.
  • 🌸 Flowering: flowers abundantly, often several times a year, when provided with strong light and consistent care.

It is a hardy orchid, also suitable for beginners, adding a tropical accent with its vivid, long-lasting flowers.

Height including pot: 50-60 cm

This variety reblooms repeatedly on the same stem—do not remove stems with spent flowers.

Quick care guide

  • Light: plenty of light; gentle morning sun or bright filtered light.
  • Watering: water when the surface of the substrate begins to dry; do not allow water to stand.
  • Temperature: it can stay outdoors in summer after acclimatization, but protect it from prolonged cold and frost.
  • Substrate and stems: airy mix with good drainage; do not cut the aerial roots or green stems.
  • Fertilizing: during the growing season, apply diluted orchid fertilizer; do not fertilize completely dry substrate.
