Vanda (Christensonia) vietnamica is a miniature, fragrant orchid native to Vietnam. It has monopodial growth, compact leaves, and aerial roots that require light, air, and a more careful watering routine than a traditional pot filled with bark.

Light and temperature. Provide plenty of filtered light, with gentle morning sun after acclimatization. Warm indoor temperatures are suitable, but light ventilation is essential. Very dark leaves and slow growth indicate insufficient light; dry spots indicate excessive sun.

Watering and roots. Water thoroughly when the roots turn silver and allow the water to drain completely. Do not cut the aerial roots. A well-ventilated pot, basket, or mounted cultivation is suitable; water trapped between the leaves or at the base of the plant can cause problems.

Fertilizing and repotting. During active growth, apply diluted orchid fertilizer after watering. Repot only when new roots appear, using an aerated orchid substrate if growing it in a pot.

Flowering and practical signs. Fragrant flowers appear on a mature plant with good light and active roots. Soft roots or an affected base indicate excess water; firm leaves and roots with green tips indicate good adaptation.
