Ceratostylis retisquama
Ceratostylis retisquama (syn. Ceratostylis rubra) is a small orchid that grows as an epiphyte in warm to very hot climates, found in the Philippines at altitudes of up to 500 meters. This plant has a terete pseudobulb and a resistant, linear-jawed leaf. The flowers, with a size of approximately 2.5 cm, appear from the dry and brown sheath located at the base of the pseudobulb and develop in dense silks. This orchid blooms freely almost in all seasons, presenting a solitary flower or a pair of short-lived flowers, which appear on a short stem on the new growth at the base of the pseudobulb.
Ceratostylis retisquama can be mounted in wooden baskets with slats or on cork and is an easy plant to grow. It is ideal for growers who want an orchid that flowers frequently and that can be easily cared for by simple cultivation methods.
