Hippeastrum, commonly known as Amaryllis, is a genus of bulbous plants native to South America, renowned for its large, striking, and colorful flowers, which usually bloom in winter or spring, often indoors.

🔹 Botanical characteristics:

• Bulb: Large in size, round or slightly elongated in shape. The bulb is the underground part from which both the leaves and the flower stalk grow.

• Leaves: Long, narrow, deep green, appearing either before or after flowering, depending on the variety.

• Flower stalk: Upright, fleshy, leafless, reaching a height of 30–60 cm.

• Flowers: Large, trumpet-shaped, with 6 petals, available in various colors: red, pink, white, coral, orange, bicolored, or striped. The flowers appear grouped (2–6) at the top of the stalk and have a strong visual impact.

🔹 Recommended growing conditions:

• Light: Hippeastrum needs bright but indirect light, especially during the growth and flowering period.

• Soil: Light, well-drained. A mix of flower soil with sand or perlite can be used.

• Watering: Moderate during growth and flowering; water only when the surface of the soil is dry. After flowering, watering is gradually reduced to prepare the plant for rest.

• Temperature: Prefers mild to warm temperatures.

• Fertilizing: During the active period (from leaf emergence until late summer), fertilize every 2 weeks with fertilizer for flowering plants.

• Vegetative rest: To bloom annually, Hippeastrum requires a rest period of 8–10 weeks, during which the bulbs are kept cool and dark, without watering.

• Planting: The bulb is planted in a pot with the tip exposed above the soil, in late autumn or winter, to bloom after 6–10 weeks.
