Phalaenopsis violacea var. indigo is a rare variety of the species Phalaenopsis violacea native to Malaysia and Sumatra, genus Phalaenopsis (family Orchidaceae).

Botanical characteristics:

  • Flowers: 4–6 cm in diameter, star-shaped, waxy, with a deep indigo / intense violet-blue color and lighter tips. Very strong and pleasant fragrance. 2–7 flowers per inflorescence.
  • Habitus: Compact monopodial plant (20–30 cm span), with 3–4 fleshy green leaves. Short or curved inflorescences.
  • Particularities: Variety valued for its deep blue pigmentation and exceptional scent. Prefers warm and humid conditions, filtered light.

A compact and fragrant species, excellent for Phalaenopsis collections. The flowers naturally show variations in color/shade.

Note: In the case of peloric varieties (flowers and/or leaves with mutations) - the mutation causing peloric flowers/leaves is not always stable. A plant classified as peloric may produce “normal” flowers, may have both normal and peloric flowers on the same stem, or may have one stem with normal flowers and another with peloric flowers.
