Hoya gigas is a climbing species from New Guinea, sought after for its unusually large flowers, in shades of reddish brown, with a yellow corona marked with brown. The original botanical description indicates a corolla of approximately 8.2 cm when fully spread, although the observed size may vary between specimens and growing conditions. Over time, the plant develops long, branched, flexible vines.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are oblong to elliptically oblong, with a pointed tip and rounded base. The original description mentions leaves approximately 9–14 cm long and 4.2–5.5 cm wide, with a smooth upper surface and finely pubescent underside. The plant is a tall, branched vine, with flexible stems and relatively sparse foliage.

Flowers and fragrance. The inflorescences may comprise approximately 3–7 large flowers, with a very broad, slightly cup-shaped corolla that is red to reddish brown and finely hairy on the inside. The type description indicates approximately 8.2 cm for the fully spread corolla, supporting the commercial range of 7–9 cm without making the size a guarantee for every bloom. The flowers are fragrant, although horticultural sources are not consistent regarding the character of the fragrance; its intensity and perceived notes may vary depending on the clone, flower age, and growing conditions.

Botanical identity and origin. The accepted botanical name is Hoya gigas Schltr., published in 1913. The specimen on which the species was described was collected in the northeastern part of the island, on trees in the forests along the Waria River, at an altitude of approximately 450 m.

The decorative pot is not included in the price.

Substrate: use an airy, well-draining mix suitable for epiphytic species. We recommend the professional substrate for Hoya and Anthurium – SG Mix.
