Hoya filiformis (Hoya chlorantha var. tutuilensis)
Hoya filiformis (Hoya chlorantha var. tutuilensis) - an endemic species from the Samoa Islands. The plant stands out through its spectacular flowers, which show great variability; the color is influenced by growing conditions, especially light. The flowers last about 7 days and are fragrant.
The leaves are dark green, pointed, and measure about 3 cm in width and about 10 cm in length at maturity. The central vein is prominent.
Hoya filiformis has been sold over time also as Hoya chlorantha var. tutuilensis and IML 0545. At one point, botanists classified it as a subspecies/variety of Hoya chlorantha. Suppliers from the countries of origin, as well as some collectors, disagree with this classification – for this reason, the plant has been sold under both names over time. In 2021, Hoya filiformis became the accepted name.
