Dischidia is a tropical epiphytic plant belonging to the Apocynaceae family, related to Hoya. Native to Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Pacific, this plant impresses with its small, fleshy leaves, often round or oval, which can vary in shades of green, gray, or even pinkish, depending on the species (e.g., Dischidia nummularia, Dischidia ovata). Some varieties have leaves that look like "little pockets" that store water. The plants produce long, climbing or hanging stems, and small, delicate flowers, usually white or pink. Dischidia is ideal for hanging pots or mounted on decorative supports, bringing an exotic charm to indoor spaces.

Care:

  1. Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight which can burn the leaves. Ideal: east or west-facing window.
  2. Watering: Water when the surface of the soil is dry. Tolerates dryness but avoid overwatering. Use room temperature water and ensure good drainage.
  3. Humidity: Requires moderate to high humidity (50-70%). Mist the leaves or use a humidifier.
  4. Soil and pot: Well-draining mix (bark, sphagnum moss, perlite). Suitable for hanging pots or as an epiphyte on supports.
  5. Temperature: Ideal 18-27°C. Protect from cold drafts or temperatures below 15°C.
  6. Fertilizer: Diluted liquid fertilizer (for indoor plants/orchids) monthly, in spring and summer.
  7. Pruning and propagation: Prune for shape. Propagate by stem cuttings in water or moist moss.
  8. Pests and diseases: Watch for mites or aphids. Treat with insecticidal soap if they appear.

Tip: Dischidia adapts well to conditions similar to orchids and Hoya varieties. Monitor its condition and adjust care to support healthy growth.
