Full description and specifications

Nepenthes hookeriana is a species of carnivorous plant in the genus Nepenthes. This plant is native to the tropical regions of Southeast Asia, including Malaysia and Indonesia. Like other plants from the Nepenthaceae family, N. hookeriana has a way of life adapted to environments with soils poor in nutrients. To supplement the nutrient requirement, this plant uses pitcher-shaped traps to catch and digest insects.

Nepenthes hookeriana can be grown indoors with high humidity and indirect light. It is a popular plant among lovers of carnivorous plants due to its spectacular appearance and its unique feeding method.

  1. Light : This plant prefers indirect light or filtered light. Avoid direct exposure to the sun for long periods.

  2. Humidity : High humidity is crucial; a humidity of at least 50-70% is ideal.

  3. Water : Use distilled water, rainwater or reverse osmosis water for watering. The soil should remain moist, but not saturated.

  4. Soil : A mixture of peat, sphagnum moss and perlite is often recommended. The soil must have good drainage.

  5. Temperature : The ideal temperatures are between 20-30 degrees Celsius. Avoid sudden temperature fluctuations.

  6. Fertilization : As a carnivorous plant, Nepenthes hookeriana obtains the nutrients it needs by capturing insects. It is not generally necessary to use fertilizer.

IMPORTANT: Insectivorous / carnivorous plants do not pose any kind of danger to humans. Their digestive juice is a good hand sanitizer at best! Many come from the misty jungles of Southeast Asia, forming tree-climbing cattle, and their traps really do look like traps.
