Scindapsus pictus 'Mayari' Variegata is a spectacular collector’s variety, appreciated for the unusual combination of the characteristic silver pattern found in some forms of Scindapsus pictus and sectoral variegation ranging from creamy yellow to lime green. The result is highly contrasting foliage, with each leaf potentially displaying a different pattern.

The leaves are thick, cordate to ovate-cordate, with a slightly velvety texture. Silver areas appear on the green background, while the variegation may form spots, broad sectors, light-colored margins or, occasionally, leaves that are almost entirely yellow-lime.

It is a tropical climbing plant that can be grown either trailing or on a support. Vertical growth and the ability of the aerial roots to anchor themselves to a suitable support encourage the development of larger leaves as the plant matures.

🌞 Growing conditions and care

• Light: prefers bright, indirect light. Sufficient light is important for growth and for maintaining variegation, but intense direct sunlight can scorch the lighter-colored portions, in particular.

• Watering: moderate. Allow the upper part of the substrate to partially dry out between waterings. Avoid keeping the substrate constantly wet or waterlogged.

• Humidity: prefers moderate to high atmospheric humidity, together with good air circulation.

• Temperature: ideally approximately 18-28°C. Protect the plant from cold and cold drafts.

• Fertilization: moderate during the active growing season, using a balanced fertilizer for tropical foliage plants.

• Growing on a support: recommended for achieving a mature growth habit and larger leaves. A support for climbing plants, moss or another material that allows aerial roots to anchor themselves may be used.

• Pruning: overly long shoots can be shortened to control the shape and encourage branching.

• Cold tolerance: does not tolerate frost; in Romania, it is grown as an indoor plant.
