Hoya waymaniae 'Cloudy sky' (Kapuas)

Hoya waymaniae 'Cloudy Sky' (Kapuas) is marketed as a selection of the Bornean species Hoya waymaniae, valued primarily for its foliage. The thick, leathery and slightly wavy leaves have a bluish-green base overlaid with silver splash markings of variable distribution. In bright, filtered light, the foliage may develop reddish or coppery tones. It produces orange flowers with a contrasting cream and red corona, accompanied by a subtle fragrance.

Characteristics. The species is an epiphyte with firm, slightly hairy leaves and wavy margins. This appearance is correctly described as splash, not variegation. The intensity and distribution of the markings may naturally vary between specimens and between leaves on the same plant.

Flowers and fragrance. The species’ flowers have a strongly recurved orange corolla and a cream-and-red corona. Specialized horticultural sources describe approximately 20–25 flowers per umbel, a lifespan of around one week, and a faint fragrance. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.
