The pale, almost translucent appearance of the rosettes is the characteristic that inspired the name 'White Ghost'.

The plant forms compact rosettes with fleshy leaves ending in translucent tips, through which light partially penetrates the tissue. The intensity of the colors and the distribution of the lighter areas may vary from one specimen to another.
