Colocasia 'Madeira Star' is an impressive variety of Colocasia, belonging to the Araceae family. The plant stands out both for its stunning appearance and its size, with mature specimens reaching heights of over 1.5 m, and leaf lengths up to 60 cm.

The leaves are large, heart-shaped, and as they begin to mature, they turn black with a deep red center, creating an incredible visual contrast.

The juvenile leaf form (the form in which the plants are usually sold) is more muted, with leaves shaded between green and black, but you won’t have to wait long – Colocasia grows very rapidly.

Differences between Colocasia and Alocasia. Alocasia leaves grow upwards, while Colocasia leaves point downwards toward the ground. Unlike Alocasia, Colocasia requires much more water (it even tolerates soil with high water retention), being considered by many growers as a "water plant" and can grow in direct sunlight.

Height including pot: approx. 30 cm
Pot diameter: 13 cm

Colocasia is a plant sensitive to transport (especially temperature changes). Therefore, you may receive these plants with some leaf damage or without leaves, but this does not affect the plant’s viability. Under optimal care conditions, new leaves will develop from the rhizomes.
