Tillandsia Airplant Care - Aerial Plants - Aerophyte Plants. Watering and Maintenance
The term Tillandsia Air Plants actually refers to the more than 500 varieties of Tillandsia epiphytes, which can survive without a substrate. These plants have the ability to assimilate the necessary foliar nutrients, using the superficial roots only for fixation.
Aerial plants, also called tillandsia airplant or aerophyte plants, are easy to care for, provided you follow a few simple instructions:
- Placement - to enjoy active growth and flowers, it is good to place them in a well-lit space, but with filtered light. Solar exposure can cause burns and rapid deterioration of plants. Avoid placing plants near a source of heat (heater) in the cold season or a source of cold (air conditioning) in the warm season.
- Watering - do not pour water over them! The best watering method is to run the plant under warm water once a week. Let the water drain, and when it is completely dry, put the plant back in its place.
- Spray - spray the plant regularly, preferably with the nutrient spray for tillandsia air plant. On hot days, spray 1-2 times a week, and on cold days once every 1-2 weeks.
- Maintenance - as the plant develops, the leaves at the base may dry out - this is normal. Dry leaves can be removed - if they do not come off easily, wait a few days and try again.
