Sansevieria 'Mahanakorn' is an impressive variety of Sansevieria, prized for its distinctive and robust leaves, and is a popular choice for interior decoration due to its elegant appearance and easy care.
Care:
-
Light:
- Preferences: Sansevieria 'Mahanakorn' prefers bright, indirect light, but can tolerate partial shade. It can be placed in both sunny and partially shaded locations. Exposure to bright light will intensify the color of the leaves.
- Avoidance: Avoid direct exposure to intense sunlight for long periods, as it can cause burns on the leaves.
-
Soil:
- Soil type: Prefers well-drained, sandy or loamy soil. A cactus or succulent soil mix is ideal for Sansevieria 'Mahanakorn'. It is important that the soil does not retain water.
- Amendments: Add perlite or sand to improve soil drainage.
-
Watering:
- Frequency: Watering should be moderate. The plant is drought tolerant and does not require frequent watering. In summer, water the plant when the soil is completely dry. In winter, reduce watering to a minimum.
- Method: Water the plant at the base, avoiding water accumulation in the center of the leaf rosette.
-
Temperature:
- Optimal range: Sansevieria 'Mahanakorn' prefers temperatures between 18-27°C. It can tolerate lower temperatures, but must be protected from frost (below 10°C).
-
Moisture:
- Preferences: The plant tolerates dry air well and does not require high humidity. It is suitable for the usual indoor climate.
-
Fertilization:
- Tip: Fertilize the plant once every 2-3 months during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer for indoor plants, diluted to half the recommended concentration.
- Frequency: No fertilization is needed during the dormant period (fall and winter).
-
Multiplication:
- Methods: Sansevieria 'Mahanakorn' is easily propagated by dividing the rhizomes or by leaf cuttings. Cut a leaf and let it dry for a few days, then plant it in well-drained soil.
-
Common problems:
- Diseases: The plant may be susceptible to root rot if overwatered. Make sure the soil is well-drained and the plant does not stand in water.
- Pests: Check the plant regularly for aphids, red spider mites and scale insects. Treat promptly if infestations occur.
Due to the brittle leaves, this plant may show small defects caused by handling. These do not affect the health or development of the plant.
