Sansevieria Masoniana Variegata (Variegated Whale Fin)

Sansevieria masoniana variegata, also known as “Whale Fin Variegata”, is a rare and spectacular variety of sansevieria, appreciated for its enormous, solitary, and variegated leaf, with a graphic appearance and architectural structure. This succulent plant belongs to the Asparagaceae family and is ideal for modern, minimalist decor or exotic plant collections.

🔹 Botanical characteristics:

• Habit: Medium to large succulent plant, slow growing with a solitary form, often with a single large leaf that can multiply over time. It can reach 30–50 cm in height or more, depending on age.

• Leaves: Very large, wide, thick, and fleshy, with an elongated oval shape, resembling a whale fin (hence the popular name “Whale Fin”). The surface is green with yellow or cream variegations, arranged in irregular stripes, spots, or edges, different from plant to plant – making it extremely valuable for collectors.

• Texture: The leaf is waxy, with fine veins and a subtle ridge in the middle. Variegation can be unstable and influenced by light.

🔹 Recommended growing conditions:

• Light: Prefers strong indirect light to maintain vibrant variegation. Tolerant of partial shade, but in low light the leaf may become predominantly green. Can also adapt to artificial light.

• Watering: Low. Water only when the substrate is completely dry. The plant is sensitive to overwatering, and frequent watering can cause root rot.

• Soil: Very well-drained – cactus and succulent substrate, with added perlite, coarse sand, or pumice stone.

• Temperature: Prefers warm and stable environments. Must be protected from cold and frost.

• Humidity: Perfectly adapts to the dry air of indoor spaces. Does not require high humidity.

• Fertilization: In the warm season (spring–summer), once every 4–6 weeks, with a weak fertilizer for succulents.
