Phymatosorus scolopendria ‘Hawaiian Sunshine’ – feriga cangur
Also known as the "Kangaroo Fern" or "Monstera Fern," the ‘Hawaiian Sunshine’ variety is a bright and modern take on the classic fern. It stands out with its large, lobed leaves of a vibrant leek green, crossed by irregular golden-yellow stripes. It is a collector’s plant that radiates energy and freshness.
Why choose ‘Hawaiian Sunshine’?
-
Vibrant Coloring: The variegation (yellow stripes) is very pronounced, giving the plant a "sunny" appearance even in the less brightly lit corners of the room.
-
Waxy Texture: The leaves have a dense, glossy, and stiff texture, making them much more resistant to dehydration than delicate ferns (such as Nephrolepis).
-
Decorative Rhizomes: As the plant matures, it develops rhizomes (creeping stems) covered with brown fuzz that spill over the edge of the pot, offering a wild and interesting look.
-
Air Purification: Like most ferns, it is excellent at filtering toxins from indoor air.

Care and Usage Tips
-
Placement: The perfect spot is in the bathroom or kitchen, where natural humidity is higher. If kept in the living room, regularly mist the leaves.
-
Watering: Water moderately. Let the top 2-3 cm of soil dry out before watering again. Caution: do not let water stagnate in the pot saucer.
-
Soil: Needs a very loose mix (potting soil mixed with orchid bark or perlite) to allow the rhizomes to "breathe."
-
Fertilizing: Apply a diluted fertilizer for green plants once a month, only during the warm period (April-September).
Design Tip: Due to its slightly trailing habit given by the rhizomes, ‘Hawaiian Sunshine’ looks spectacular in hanging baskets or on high shelves, where its bicolored leaves can be admired in all their splendor.
📌 Note: Leaves may show small natural imperfections, slightly marked tips, or fine traces resulting from handling and transport. Depending on the season and growing conditions, some older leaves may yellow or partially dry out. These aspects are normal for a fern and do not affect the plant’s viability.
