Hoya krohniana 'Splash' - XL specimens

Hoya krohniana 'Splash' - XL specimens is a trailing cultivar with small, firm, often heart-shaped leaves irregularly marked with silver. The name 'Splash' describes the silver flecks on the foliage. The distribution and density of the markings naturally vary between plants and between leaves on the same specimen. Mature plants highlight both the contrast of the foliage and the abundant vines, making them suitable for hanging displays. The developed vines form a dense green curtain.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are small, with raised veins and a base that may be heart-shaped, rounded, or convex. The silver markings may cover only isolated spots or larger areas, and not every leaf will reproduce the pattern shown in the photographs. In bright, filtered light, the green tissue may develop darker or burgundy tones. The plant branches and produces slender vines, making it suitable for hanging pots.

Flowers and fragrance. Under good growing conditions, Hoya krohniana repeatedly produces umbels of small, creamy-white, pubescent flowers. The flowers are strongly fragrant, especially in the evening, and a bloom typically lasts only a few days.

Botanical identity. Hoya krohniana Kloppenb. & Siar is accepted as a distinct species, published in 2009 and native to the Philippines. It is very closely related to Hoya lacunosa, and distinguishing between them remains difficult in horticulture: the flowers and venation are very similar, while the shape and angle of the leaf base may help with identification. The former trade name “Hoya lacunosa Heart Leaf” explains its commercial history.

Commercial details. XL specimens are shipped, with a full appearance and vines whose length varies depending on the plant, batch, and season. The same pot may contain both green growth and growth with more intense splash markings. Flowers, buds, peduncles, and vines are fragile and may be damaged during handling or transport; purchasing implies acceptance of this risk.
