Alocasia zebrina

Alocasia zebrina is a striking tropical plant, known and loved for its unique stems with zebra-like stripe patterns and large, arrow-shaped leaves. It is an extremely decorative indoor plant, perfect for adding an exotic, modern, and graphic touch to any space.

🔹 Botanical characteristics:

• Form: A perennial plant with an upright, elegant growth, featuring long stems and raised leaves. It can reach 60–100 cm in height under ideal conditions.

• Leaves: Large, glossy, arrow-shaped, dark green in color with prominent veins. The surface is smooth and thin, with a pronounced tropical look.

• Stems: The plant’s distinctive feature – thin, elongated, with irregular dark brown stripes on a yellow background, very similar to a zebra pattern. This contrast makes the stems appear drawn and highly decorative.

🔹 Recommended growing conditions:

• Light: Prefers bright indirect light, but can also adapt to partial shade. Does not tolerate direct sunlight, which can burn the thin leaves.

• Watering: Moderate. Keep the soil slightly moist but not soaked. Good drainage is important, as it is sensitive to excess water.

• Soil: Aerated and well-drained – ideally a tropical mix with peat, perlite, and crushed bark.

• Humidity: Appreciates high air humidity, but can adapt to drier spaces if occasionally misted or placed near a humidifier.

• Temperature: Grows well in warm and stable environments. Must be protected from cold drafts and low temperatures.

• Fertilizing: During the growing season (spring–summer), apply a liquid fertilizer for green plants every 2–3 weeks.

• Care: Moderate – requires attention to watering and humidity but is resilient if given proper conditions.

Alocasia zebrina is valued by collectors and interior designers for its graphic appearance, distinctive stems, and exotic air. It is perfect for modern décor, jungle-style settings, or as a tropical accent in a minimalist space.
