Aglaonema ‘Miss Juliette’ - XL specimens

Aglaonema ‘Miss Juliette’, also known as the “evergreen Chinese plant,” is a hybrid cultivar of the Aglaonema species from the Araceae family, valued for its decorative foliage and low care needs. Native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, this houseplant is ideal for spaces with low light, thanks to its vibrant appearance and adaptability, making it perfect for beginners or collectors.

Leaf Appearance

• Leaves: The leaves are oval, slightly elongated, of a dark green shade, with a striking variegation made up of spots and speckles of cream, white, and silvery gray. Leaf length ranges between 15-25 cm, with a glossy, waxy texture that adds a lush look. The variegation is even but may vary depending on light, becoming more intense under optimal conditions.

Growth Features

• Height and width: Grows compactly, reaching 30-50 cm in height and 30-40 cm in width, forming a dense clump of leaves that arise directly from the base of the stems.
• Vigor: Has a slow to moderate growth rate, being a plant that does not require frequent repotting.
• Type: It is a perennial, herbaceous plant that grows in rosettes, without needing support to stay upright.

Growing Conditions

• Exposure: Prefers low to moderate indirect light, ideally near a north- or east-facing window. It tolerates low light well, but bright indirect light enhances the variegation. Direct sunlight burns the leaves.
• Soil: Requires a well-drained substrate rich in organic matter, such as a mix of potting soil, perlite, and peat.
• Watering: Water when the top 3-5 cm of soil are dry, usually once every 1-2 weeks during the growing season (spring-summer) and less often in winter. It is sensitive to overwatering, which can cause root rot.
• Temperature: Thrives at 18-27°C, making it ideal for home conditions. Avoid temperatures below 15°C and cold drafts.
• Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (40-60%). A humidifier or a tray with pebbles and water helps in dry homes but it also tolerates standard humidity.
• Fertilizing: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer (e.g., 10-10-10) once a month in spring and summer, diluted to half strength. Do not fertilize in winter.
• Pests: May be affected by spider mites, scale insects, or aphids. Regularly inspect leaves and treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Good ventilation prevents fungal diseases.
• Propagation: Propagated by dividing clumps or stem cuttings, rooted in water or moist substrate within 4-6 weeks. Spring is the ideal season.
