Vriesea 'Splenriet' – Flaming Sword, bromeliad with a red inflorescence

Vriesea 'Splenriet' is a decorative tropical bromeliad developed from Vriesea splendens, valued for the spectacular contrast between its foliage with transverse markings and its erect, sword-shaped red inflorescence. It is also known internationally as Flaming Sword, due to the characteristic appearance of its inflorescence.

The plant forms an elegant rosette of elongated, green leaves marked with darker transverse bands ranging from brownish green to chocolate brown. An erect flower stalk develops from the center of the mature rosette, ending in intensely colored, flattened red bracts. The actual flowers are yellow and emerge successively from between the bracts; they are less persistent, while the decorative bracts can retain their appearance for a considerably longer period.

🌞 Growing conditions:

• Light: prefers bright, indirect, or filtered light. Avoid prolonged exposure to strong direct sunlight, which can cause leaf scorch.
• Growing medium: airy, porous, and very well drained. As an epiphytic bromeliad, it does not tolerate heavy, permanently waterlogged substrates.
• Watering: moderate. The growing medium should be kept slightly moist but never waterlogged. The central rosette can hold a small amount of water, which should be replaced periodically to prevent stagnation.
• Humidity: prefers moderate to high atmospheric humidity and good air circulation.
• Temperature: prefers temperatures of approximately 18-28°C. Protect the plant from cold and cold drafts; it is not frost-hardy.
• Fertilization: moderate, during the active growing period, using a diluted fertilizer.

The leaves may have minor aesthetic imperfections, dry tips, scratches, or bends resulting from growth, handling, transport, or adaptation to new environmental conditions, without affecting the plant's viability.
