Full description and specifications

Tephrocactus geometricus is a species of cactus native to the arid regions of Argentina, appreciated for its unusual and attractive appearance. This succulent plant has a unique geometric shape, being composed of globular segments that give it a particularly ornamental appearance.

Description:

  • Shape: Tephrocactus geometricus is known for its round segments, almost perfectly spherical, which can reach a diameter of 5-8 cm. The segments are blue-green or gray in color, and mature plants can form structures that resemble small pyramids.
  • Thorns: Unlike other cacti, this species may have very few thorns or none at all. When present, the spines are short and thin, not being as obvious as in other species.
  • Flowers: The flowers are large, about 4-6 cm in diameter, and have a white or pale pink color. They appear at the top of the segments and usually bloom in the warm season, spring or summer.
  • Fruits: After flowering, the plant can produce small fruits, which contain the seeds necessary for reproduction.

Care:

  • Light: Tephrocactus geometricus prefers exposure to direct sunlight or intense light, which contributes to healthy growth and flower development.
  • Soil: A well-drained soil is necessary, specific for cacti and succulents, preferably mixed with coarse sand or gravel to prevent excessive water retention.
  • Watering: Watering should be moderate during the growing season (spring and summer), ensuring that the soil dries completely between waterings. In winter, watering should be reduced or even stopped to prevent root rot.
  • Temperature: The plant prefers high temperatures and can tolerate exposure to extreme heat. In winter, it must be protected from frost, ideally at temperatures above 5°C.
