Tephrocactus alexanderi

Tephrocactus alexanderi is a species of cactus native to Argentina. It belongs to the Cactaceae family and the Opuntioideae subfamily. Cacti of the Tephrocactus genus are usually recognized by their spherical or oval segments, which easily detach from the plant.

Tephrocactus alexanderi is a small to medium-sized cactus, often growing in a bushy form, with elongated segments of light green or blue-green color. It has long and thick spines, usually white or gray. The flowers, which appear in spring or summer, are typically white or cream-colored.

This plant is adapted to dry environments, with low rainfall and a large temperature variation between day and night. It is drought-resistant and requires well-drained soil to prevent root rot.
