Maranta is commonly called the praying plant because in the evening it raises its leaves and presses them together like two hands in prayer, and in the morning it lowers them.
Maranta is a plant with very striking and attractive leaf patterns. The leaves look as if they were hand-painted.

Maranta received its name from Bartolomeo Maranti, a famous Venetian botanist from the sixteenth century, and it comes from Central and South America.
Maranta grows up to about 45 cm tall, producing 5-6 new leaves per year. A small white flower appears in summer, but the plant is decorative because of its leaves rather than its flowers. It prefers semi-shaded or shaded places, and exposure to too strong light discolours the leaves.
Care instructions for Maranta
