Limequat Lyvia (kumquat x lime) D12

Limonella is a cross between Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) and round-fruited Kumquat (Citrus japonica) - resulting in a very juicy and aromatic fruit, with high acidity but quite sweet, and fewer seeds than a kumquat. It has a very high concentration of vitamin C. It is considered an intensive cultivation hybrid because it can flower and bear fruit all year round.

The Lyvia fruit is greenish-yellow, oval, and slightly larger than other Eustis Limequat varieties. Unlike lime, the fruits can be eaten whole, and they remain an interesting ingredient for cocktails, lemonades, or as a unique garnish/plate design element.

This hybrid was first obtained by the American botanist Walter Tennyson Swingle in 1909.
