Kiwi - Actinidia arguta 'Ken's Red' (Red Kiwi) D9
Kiwi - Actinidia arguta 'Ken's Red' is a female variety, resistant to temperatures as low as -25 degrees Celsius. It requires a male pollinator such as Actinidia arguta 'Weiki'.
The fruits have a smooth skin, making them directly consumable, even with the peel still on. Unlike Actinidia arguta 'Issai', the fruit is slightly larger, about 4 cm in size, and colors spectacularly red-violet when the plant grows in direct sun.
Although smaller in size compared to commercial varieties, the fruits compensate with abundance, taste, and appearance - the yield is quite high and the growth is fairly compact for a kiwi. The taste is sweet, strongly aromatic, and the fruit has good resistance - it does not become soft.
Kiwi can be harvested starting in September. This variety usually produces its first fruits in the first years after planting.
Cultivation recommendations: Grown on trellises/arches/fences, like a grapevine. We recommend choosing a wind-sheltered area, preferably near a wall/fence with southern exposure. Kiwi 'Ken's Red' appreciates warmth and direct sunlight. The first prunings can be done 2 years after planting, at the end of winter or immediately after harvest.
Does not require special soil (but prefers slightly acidic soil) and is resistant to diseases and pests, being naturally considered "pest free".
Height including pot: 15-35 cm. Varies depending on the season.
Pot size: 9 cm
Note: In the cold season, plants are in vegetative rest, pruned, and sold without leaves.
