Hoya sp. Bengkulu (Rindu Rafflesia)

Hoya sp. Bengkulu (Rindu Rafflesia) is a label for an unpublished plant, also sold as Hoya sp. DD001. The name indicates Bengkulu Province in Sumatra, the same area as Rafflesia arnoldii; it is not a Rafflesia and is not an accepted taxon. The foliage is long, narrow, lanceolate, dark green, with distinct veins and variable silver splash. The flowers are cream-colored and reflexed, with a pink corona. This is not a botanical publication. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are thick, glossy, lanceolate, and pointed. The veins are visible on the green leaf blades. The silver splashes may be dense or sparse; on specimens from this batch, the coverage is often subtle. The growth habit is that of a vine, pendent or climbing. The plants shown in the photographs are young; shoot length increases with maturity.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are small and star-shaped, with reflexed lobes, grouped in compact umbels. The gallery shows a cream-yellow corolla and a white-pink corona with pink tips. Some growers report a faint, sweet fragrance; others detect no scent. Fragrance intensity is not guaranteed. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. Bengkulu, Rindu Rafflesia, and DD001 are horticultural labels for the same formally unidentified material. No botanical name has been published. The attribution to Bengkulu Province (on the southwestern coast of Sumatra) comes from horticulture, not from a scientific description. The plant is not related to Rafflesia.
