Hoya pubicalyx 'Royal Hawaiian Purple' (Taiwan) is a commercial cultivar of the Philippine species Hoya pubicalyx. It has a climbing habit and elongated foliage, varying in shape and size. The silver splash is faint or absent, unlike other selections from the same group. The star-shaped flowers appear in dense umbels and may be pink, burgundy, or almost black, sometimes mixed within the same umbel. They are fragrant, and the vines can be trained on a support.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are elongated and leathery, with shapes and sizes varying from one vine to another. When present, the silver markings are splash, not variegation, and may be sparse or absent on some of the foliage. New growth may have pink or reddish tones, later maturing to green. The vines can be trained on a support.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are star-shaped and arranged in umbels. Their color ranges from light pink to dark burgundy or almost black, sometimes within the same umbel or even on the same flower. They are fragrant; the intensity may vary throughout flowering.

Botanical identity and origin. Hoya pubicalyx Merr. is an accepted species native to Luzon, Philippines. 'Royal Hawaiian Purple' is a commercial cultivar. It has also been incorrectly circulated as Hoya pubicalyx var. chimera or cv. Chimera; these are horticultural labels.
