Hoya hanhiae is a species native to Vietnam, described in 2014, with thick, glossy, ovate foliage. Deep Violet refers to the flower colour. The species was found in lowland forests on sandy soils near the coast. The flowers are pleasantly fragrant and last only a few days. The plant can be trained as an epiphytic vine or left to trail. Care is simple, and the plant grows steadily.

Foliage and growth. The foliage is ovate or broadly ovate, thick and glossy, with 3–5 veins emerging from the base. Mature leaves can reach 6–17 cm in length. It is an epiphytic vine: train it onto a support or let it trail. Deep Violet retains the species’ foliage; the label refers to the flower colour, not to variegation.

Flowers and fragrance. In the species, the umbels are semi-globular, with dozens of flowers approximately 1 cm across, ranging from pale yellow to purplish pink. The Deep Violet selection was selected for its dark violet shades. The flowers are fragrant and usually last 3–4 days. The colour may vary slightly depending on growing conditions.

Botanical identity and origin. Hoya hanhiae V.T.Pham & Aver. is an accepted botanical name, published in 2014. The species is native to Vietnam and was described from material collected in coastal areas of Quang Tri and Khanh Hoa. The authors compare it with Hoya macrophylla and Hoya verticillata; it remains a distinct species. Deep Violet is a colour label.

The substrate should dry out between waterings, but mixes that dry out too quickly are not suitable.

The decorative pot is not included in the price.

Substrate: use an airy, well-drained mix suitable for epiphytic species. We recommend the professional substrate for Hoya and Anthurium - SG Mix.
