Hoya diversifolia 'Albomarginata' is a foliage selection of a vigorous tropical species, valued for its thick, glossy leaves with a green center and light-colored margins. Unlike “Splash” forms, Albomarginata is marginal variegation: the cream to pale-yellow tissue contains less chlorophyll than the green area. The width, color, and regularity of the margin vary naturally between leaves and specimens, making each new growth slightly different.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are fleshy, waxy, broad, and oval to obovate, sometimes with a slightly wavy margin. The green center contrasts with the cream, yellowish-white, or pale-yellow border. The plant has a climbing habit and can form vigorous vines, suitable for training on a support. On new growth, the variegation may have a different shade from that of mature leaves.

Flowers and fragrance. At maturity, the plant may produce umbels of waxy flowers, white to pale pink, with a deeper pink corona. The flowers have a subtle fragrance, whose intensity may vary depending on the time of day and growing conditions.

Botanical identity and origin. The accepted botanical name is Hoya diversifolia Blume, published in 1827. The species is a climbing epiphyte native from Hainan and Indochina through Malesia, including Borneo, Java, the Philippines, Sulawesi, and Sumatra.
