Erica x darleyensis 'Kramer's Rote' is a decorative winter heath variety, notable for its abundant blooms in intense magenta-ruby shades. The small, numerous flowers cover the compact shrubs during the cold season and at the beginning of spring, bringing color to the garden precisely when most plants are dormant.

It is a perennial, evergreen shrub with fine, dense, decorative foliage throughout the year. It has a compact, slightly spreading habit, making it suitable for planting in the garden as well as in pots, planters, rockeries, or borders.

It is also known as Winter Heath, Darley Heath, or Kramer's Red.

🌿 Growing conditions and care

Light:
It prefers sunny or lightly shaded areas. A bright position encourages more abundant flowering and helps maintain a compact habit.

Watering:
Water moderately so that the substrate remains slightly moist, but never waterlogged. It is important that excess water can drain away quickly.

Soil:
It prefers loose, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Erica x darleyensis is more tolerant of soil pH than many other types of heath, but it grows very well in a slightly acidic substrate.

Frost resistance:
It is a plant with good cold tolerance, suitable for outdoor cultivation, and can withstand temperatures of approximately -15°C.

Plants grown in pots are more exposed to very low temperatures because their roots are less protected than those of plants grown directly in the ground. During periods of severe frost, pots can be protected or placed in a more sheltered area.

Pruning:
After flowering, light trimming can be carried out to remove spent flowers and encourage branching. Severe pruning into the woody parts of the plant should be avoided.

🌱 Recommended substrate

For Erica 'Kramer's Rote', we recommend a substrate for acid-loving plants that is loose and well drained, while maintaining a balanced moisture level around the roots.

When grown in a pot, the container must have good drainage holes, and water should not be left standing in the saucer or decorative cover pot.
