Full description and specifications

Cleistocactus baumannii is a columnar cactus native to the arid regions of South America, especially Argentina. This plant is appreciated for its tall, slender shape and for its cylindrical, tubular flowers.

Description:

  • Form: Cleistocactus baumannii grows in the form of straight or slightly branched columns, which can reach a height of 1-2 meters in optimal conditions. The stems are covered with fine, yellowish-white spines.
  • Thorns: The thorns are numerous, but thin and delicate, densely covering the stem. They help protect the plant and give it a pearly appearance.
  • Flowers: The flowers are tubular, red or orange, with a length of approximately 5-6 cm. They appear in summer or autumn and are quite resistant. The flowers do not open completely, but remain semi-closed, characteristic of the species.

Care:

  • Light: Cleistocactus baumannii prefers direct exposure to the sun or partial shade, being a plant that loves strong light. In interior spaces, it is ideal to be placed in a sunny place.
  • Soil: It requires a well-drained soil, specific for cacti, with the addition of sand or gravel to ensure efficient drainage and to prevent water accumulation at the roots.
  • Watering: Watering should be moderate, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. In winter, when the plant goes into rest, watering should be considerably reduced.
  • Temperature: The plant is resistant to high temperatures, but must be protected from frost. It tolerates heat well, but temperatures below 5°C can be dangerous for this species.
  • Fertilization: It is recommended to use a specific fertilizer for cacti during the growth period (spring and summer), applied monthly.
