Alocasia portei (Malajski potwór)
Alocasia portei (commonly known as the Malaysian Monster) is one of the most impressive and spectacular Alocasia species, native to the tropical jungles of Borneo and Malaysia.
At maturity, it is a massive plant with vigorous growth, reaching 2–3 m in height under optimal conditions. It stands out with its huge, deep green leaves featuring very prominent silver or whitish veins that create a dramatic contrast. The leaves are sagittate (arrow-shaped), with wavy or slightly scalloped edges, and can reach impressive sizes – up to 1–1.5 m long and 80–100 cm wide in mature plants.
Due to its size and exotic appearance, it has earned the nickname “Malaysian Monster”.

- Size: very large (1.5–3 m tall at maturity)
- Leaves: huge, dark green with pronounced silver veins, wavy

- Growth: fast under favorable conditions
Simple and practical care:
- Light: bright indirect or partial shade (avoid harsh direct sun)
- Temperature: warm (day 24–30°C, night minimum 18°C) – does not tolerate cold
- Watering: abundant, keep substrate slightly moist (but not soggy)
- Humidity: high
- Substrate: rich, airy, and well-drained
- Fertilization: regular with fertilizer for green plants during the growing season (spring–autumn)
