Cyrtanthus spiralis
Full description and specifications
Cyrtanthus spiralis, also known as Fire Lily, is a bulbous plant native to South Africa. It is prized for its spectacular red or orange flowers, which have a unique spiral shape.
Care:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. The ideal placement is near a window where it receives filtered sunlight, avoiding direct exposure that can burn the leaves.
- Water: Watering should be done sparingly, waiting for the first few inches of soil to dry between waterings. Susceptibility to excess water requires good drainage to prevent bulbs from rotting.
- Soil: A well-draining mix is essential, ideally one designed for bulbous plants or cacti, which promotes drainage and prevents water stagnation.
- Temperature and Humidity: Prefers warm and moderate temperatures, between 18°C and 25°C, with moderate humidity. It must be protected from low temperatures and frost.
- Fertilizer: Fertilization can be carried out during the period of active growth with a balanced fertilizer, diluted to half the recommended strength, once a month.
