Full description and specifications

Echinofossulocactus multicostatus, also known as 'Stenocactus multicostatus', is a species of cactus native to Mexico. It is famous for its unique appearance, characterized by the numerous ribs of its cylindrical body, which can vary from 30 to over 100 in number.

The cactus is small to medium in size, with a height of approximately 5-15 cm and a width of 6-10 cm. It has a light green body, covered with a multitude of wavy and narrow ribs, which give the plant a "brain" appearance. The spines are thin, white or yellowish, with a central spine that is often longer and darker in color.

Echinofossulocactus multicostatus produces small flowers, usually pale pink or white, that appear in spring. These flowers only open for a short period of time, usually only a few hours a day.

Like most cacti, Echinofossulocactus multicostatus prefers well-drained soil and needs moderate watering, which is reduced during the winter dormancy period. It is a plant that adapts well to indoor conditions, as long as strong direct or indirect sunlight is provided.

Synonyms: Echinofossulocactus erectocentrus, Stenocactus multicostatus.
