The species is native to Borneo and the Philippines, where it grows as an epiphyte or lithophyte in humid tropical forests. In gentle light, the leaves remain green; in bright light, they may develop red or bronze tones. This reaction is light coloration, not variegation. The cream or pink flowers are grouped in compact umbels.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are elliptic to obovate, thick, with visible pinnate venation. In botanical horticultural sources, they frequently measure approximately 4–7 cm in length and 3–4 cm in width. The veins may appear creamy yellow against a green background. In bright light, the foliage may become reddish or bronze; in lower light, it remains green. The plant forms branched stems and has a climbing habit.

Botanical identity and origin. The accepted name is Hoya obscura Elmer ex C.M.Burton, published in 1986. Plants of the World Online indicates Borneo and the Philippines as its native range and describes the species as a climbing epiphyte or lithophyte of the humid tropical biome. The older wording limiting its range to the Philippines is incomplete. This batch is separate from the established specimens sold under another listing.
