Hoya anncajanoae is a species native to Luzon, the Philippines, described in 2008. The foliage is dark green, elliptical and glossy, growing on thin vines, without splash or variegation. The flowers, relatively large for section Acanthostemma, have a peachy-cream pubescent corolla and a red-orange corona, with a caramel fragrance and abundant nectar. Foliage and growth. The leaves are simple, opposite, elliptical or slightly lanceolate, thick and glossy, with a uniform dark green color. They have no silver splash and no variegation. The shoots are thin and flexible, with a vining habit; in the lot photographs, the plant is trained on a support. Some sections may temporarily remain sparser before continuing to grow. The foliage is often compared to material sold as Hoya sp. aff. burtoniae (DS-70); the resemblance is vegetative and does not indicate identity. The decorative pot is not included in the price.
Flowers and fragrance. The umbels bear star-shaped flowers with a peachy-cream pubescent corolla and a burgundy-red corona with yellow-orange tones. They are relatively large for section Acanthostemma. The caramel fragrance has been confirmed in cultivation and in the lot description; the nectar may be abundant and may drip. The color may vary depending on growing conditions. Flowering depends on plant maturity and growing conditions.
Identity. The accepted name is Hoya anncajanoae Kloppenb. & Siar, Asia Life Sci. 17(1): 62 (2008). The epithet honors Ann O. Cajano. The accepted native range is the Philippines (Luzon). It is not a synonym of Hoya burtoniae and is not DS-70; the spelling “buroniae” was also used in older sources.
