Gymnocalycium mesopotamicum is a species of small globular cactus, native to northern Argentina (Cordoba province), known for its compact, symmetrical form and spectacular flowers , usually pale pink or whitish , with a yellow center. It is a rare plant and appreciated in cactus collections due to its distinct appearance and relatively easy flowering in cultivation conditions .

Full name : Gymnocalycium mesopotamicum

Family : Cactaceae

Shape : globular, slightly flattened, with well-defined ribs and small areolas

Size : 4–6 cm diameter (at maturity), slow growing

Epidermis : olive green to dark green

Spines : short, curved towards the body, non-aggressive – yellowish-white in color

Flowers : light pink, with fine petals and a delicate appearance, appear in spring–summer at the top of the plant


🌞 Growing conditions:


Light : bright light or filtered sun – avoid sudden exposure to direct sun during hot periods

Soil : very well-drained substrate - cactus mix with sand, fine gravel and leaf soil

Watering : reduced – only when the soil is completely dry; total stop during the cold period

Temperature : prefers 20–28°C in summer; in winter requires rest at 5–10°C to stimulate flowering

Cold resistance : does not tolerate frost – keep indoors in winter
