Encyclia cordigera var. alba
Encyclia cordigera is a native species from Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Costa Rica, Panama.
Named by Hooker (Sir William Jackson Hooker (July 6, 1785 – August 12, 1865), illustrator, systematist, and botanical classifier from the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Regius Professor – by royal decree – of Botany at the University of Glasgow and Director of the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew) in 1828, the genus Encyclia belongs to the tribe Epidendreae, subtribe Laeliinae, and includes epiphytic orchid species separated from the genus Epidendrum, also described by Hooker in 1828. The holotype (the type species on which the genus was described) is Encyclia viridiflora.
