Full description and specifications

Orbea variegata is a succulent plant in the Apocynaceae family, native to South Africa, also known as the "starfish plant" due to its unique flower shape. It is prized for its exotic appearance and interesting flowers, but it also requires specific care to thrive.

  • Light: Orbea variegata prefers bright, direct light. In its natural habitat, the plant grows under the strong African sun, so in your home or garden, you should give it as much light as possible. It can tolerate partial light, but the flowers may be less spectacular.

  • Watering: Like any succulent, Orbea variegata needs moderate watering. Let the soil dry completely between waterings. During the dormant period, in winter, the plant should be watered even less frequently.

  • Soil: Use a well-draining mix, especially for succulents or cacti. Soil that retains water can cause root rot.

  • Temperature and humidity: Prefers warm temperatures, typical of Mediterranean or subtropical climates. Does not tolerate temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. Humidity is not a major problem, as long as the soil is well drained.

  • Fertilizer: Fertilizer is not strictly necessary, but you can use a diluted fertilizer for succulents during the active growth period, spring and summer.

  • Transplanting: Repot the plant every two years or when it has outgrown its current pot, to ensure it has enough growing space and fresh soil.

Height with pot included approx. 10 cm
