Description

Leaves : The leaves are thick, cylindrical or oval and are covered with fine, white or silver hairs, which protect the plant from intense sunlight and prevent water loss. The leaves are arranged densely on the stems, giving the plant a compact and fluffy appearance.
Stems : The stems are erect and can reach 20-30 cm in height, depending on the growing conditions.
Flowers : Although flowering is not very frequent with this plant when it is grown indoors, the flowers are small, yellow and appear on thin stems, above the leaves.

Care

Light : Senecio haworthii prefers strong and direct light. It grows best in a place where it can receive at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Watering : Water the plant moderately during the growing season (spring and summer), letting the soil dry completely between waterings. Excessive watering can lead to root rot and leaf loss. During the winter, watering must be drastically reduced, because the plant enters the rest period. A light watering once every few weeks is enough.

Soil : Use a well-drained soil mixture, especially for cacti and succulents. A mix of potting soil with coarse sand or perlite is ideal to ensure optimal drainage. It is important that the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from accumulating at the base.

Temperature : This plant prefers temperatures between 18-24°C during the growing season. It can tolerate lower temperatures during the rest period, but not lower than 5°C. It is not frost resistant, so it must be brought indoors if it is grown outside in areas with cold winters.

Humidity : Senecio haworthii prefers a dry environment and does not need high humidity. Dry air from heated homes is usually ideal for this plant.

Avoid spraying water on the leaves, because the silver brushes can retain moisture and promote fungal diseases.
